WHO WE ARE

My daughter and I have been making organic skincare products since 2009. In 2018 we started selling our wares. Our sales were great that year. Every year since we’ve expanded our offerings.

Skin comfort is important to us, and that means we are serious about caring for skin in the Sonoran desert. Our products intentionally target hydration, moisture, protection, and the many symptoms of poor skin barrier function, including inflammation, acne, itching and scaliness. We also value simplicity. For us, simplicity is all about five key principles.

We make all our products with the awareness that the less we interfere with the skin’s ability to achieve balance, the better.

We use only plant oils, butters, hydrosol, essential oils and clay from the earth.

We steer clear of all treatments that disrupt the barrier function. This includes acid peels, retinol, fillers, preservatives, harsh chemicals, emulsifiers & exfoliators.

We use only organic ingredients, and most of our products are vegan.

We minimize packaging & plastic, and we encourage reuse by buying back glass containers.

OUR SKINCARE PHILOSOPHY

At Desert Perfect Skin the essence of skincare can be boiled down to three things - a healthy and intact skin barrier, moisturized skin and hydrated skin.

When our skin is lipid-deficient, we say it’s dry. When we say it’s water-deficient, we say it’s dehydrated. And when we have scaliness, itchiness, inflammation, redness and acne we say there’s a skin barrier problem. In the desert environment we need to address all three of these problems A LOT.

To moisturize dry skin, we use emollient and occlusive oils and butters with an amino acid profile that properly moisturize and seal in that moisture. To address skin barrier function, we use oils with an amino acid profile that target skin barrier healing and nourishment. For skin hydration, we use hydrosol plant water that has a PH close to that of the skin. Hydrosol calms, cools and plumps skin. It also balances skin PH and delivers skin-healing plant compounds to the skin. It truly is one of the most effective ways to hydrate your skin in the desert.

To effectively address trans-epidermal water loss, though, just hydrating the skin isn’t enough. The skin needs to be able to hold down the water. This is where oil and water meet. Paired together, oil serums and hydrosols are great at anchoring hydration and moisture into the skin unlike anything else.

Finally, we suggest only occasional and gentle exfoliation. Dead skin cells are actually essential to the skin’s retention of hydration.
